Fandom is looking for a Software Engineer II focused on backend development with PHP to join the Wiki Platform team. This role is based in Poznań, with the option to work remotely from anywhere in Poland. The position reports to the Director of Engineering.
Role overview
This role centers on building and maintaining backend systems that support Fandom’s wiki platform, which serves 350 million fans and handles 4 billion page events each month. The work involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to plan, design, and develop scalable web applications and user experiences.
What you will do
- Maintain and enhance the wiki platform built on PHP 8.3 and MediaWiki
- Work with a system supported by over 100 microservices written in Java and GoLang
- Focus on improving reliability, observability, stability, and fault resilience
- Develop and refine tools, services, and infrastructure components for internal teams
- Oversee the full lifecycle of features, from development to post-release maintenance
- Write maintainable, future-ready code that avoids unnecessary complexity
- Participate in development processes and team meetings
- Identify critical systems needing change and architectural issues to address
- Help shape the team’s roadmap and work across departments to resolve challenges
