About the job
Experience: 4–5+ Years
Employment Type: Full-Time
Hiring Partner: Flatgigs
Client: Confidential AI Research & Innovation Lab
Opportunity Overview
Join Flatgigs as an AI Engineer within a confidential R&D-focused AI lab dedicated to tackling challenges across video, text, and audio domains.
This position transcends the conventional “apply a model and ship” paradigm. You will engage in a research-driven environment where challenges are ill-defined and solutions are not immediately apparent.
Your role will involve:
- Delving deep into problems
- Conducting experiments
- Embracing failures as learning opportunities
- Iterating on your findings
- Ultimately devising solutions without a predefined playbook
If you seek structured tasks and predictable outcomes, this role may not suit you. However, if you thrive on exploring complex issues and deriving insights from first principles, you will find your niche here.
Key Responsibilities
- Address intricate AI challenges in:
- Video comprehension and processing
- Text-based AI / NLP systems
- Audio processing (desirable but not essential)
- Innovate, experiment, and refine AI models and methodologies
- Tackle problems that lack clear starting points or established solutions
- Investigate various strategies before identifying optimal solutions
- Contribute to research-led experimentation and technological advancement
Qualifications

Candidates with experience confined to a single vertical may find this role challenging.
R&D Experience (Critical)
- Demonstrated experience in research or experimentation-intensive environments
- Familiarity with:
- Prototyping
- Hypothesis testing
- Iterative experimentation
- Contributions to:
- Research projects
- Internal innovation initiatives
- Publications (a plus, but not mandatory)
Depth of Problem-Solving
- Ability to transcend basic functionality and:
- Comprehend why something works or fails
- Conduct deep debugging at the model or system level
- Evaluate multiple strategies before arriving at a resolution
