About the job
Counsel Health is hiring an Analytics Engineer for its New York office in Flatiron. The team has built a strong foundation with a cloud data warehouse, ETL pipelines, and event tracking. Now, the focus shifts to unlocking insights from this data.
Role Overview
This position centers on building and maintaining the semantic layer that powers analytics across the company. The Analytics Engineer develops core data models, ensures reliable business metrics, and becomes the go-to resource for questions like, "How do we measure this?"
What You Will Do
- Design and Maintain Data Models: Create and update models that define key business metrics, including clinical outcomes, revenue, and resource utilization. Set and uphold the single source of truth for these metrics.
- Orchestrate and Monitor Data Pipelines: Run dbt orchestration with alerting, CI/CD, and data quality checks. Spot and resolve issues before they affect dashboards.
- Build Reverse ETL Pipelines: Move clean, structured data from the warehouse back into production systems. Support use cases like cohort definitions, marketing analytics, and operational features.
- Manage Data Compliance: Oversee access controls for PHI data. Ensure the data layer meets HIPAA requirements and remains accessible to those who need it.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years in analytics engineering, data analytics, or a similar data-focused role.
- Strong skills in SQL and dbt.
- Experience with BigQuery or other cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift).
- Background in a regulated industry (healthcare, fintech, insurance, or government). Experience managing sensitive data and access controls; HIPAA knowledge is a plus.
- Hands-on with data orchestration tools (such as Paradigm, dbt Cloud, or Airflow) and integrating analytics data into production systems.
What Sets You Apart
- Contextual Thinker: Comfortable translating business questions and ambiguous requirements into clear, well-structured data models. Focused on the needs of stakeholders, not just the technical details.
