About the job

About Amigo

Amigo collaborates with healthcare organizations to implement advanced AI infrastructure that enhances patient care and provider efficiency. Our AI agents streamline clinical workflows and engage patients throughout their healthcare journey, from pre-visit intake and care navigation to post-visit care plans and ongoing patient monitoring.

Recently, we secured a Series A funding round from top-tier investors including Madrona, General Catalyst, and Optum Ventures. Our technology is validated by leading academic medical institutions, and our agents have successfully managed over 3 million patient encounters, with a goal to multiply that number tenfold this year.

About This Role

As an Applied AI Engineer at Amigo, you will develop and deploy production-grade AI agents using our established architecture and verification framework. Your role will involve direct collaboration with clinical teams and enterprise clients to create agents capable of delivering complex, specialized services with proven reliability. This position demands a strong technical implementation background, paired with the capacity to translate clinical knowledge into effective systems that adhere to regulatory compliance.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop context graphs that empower agents to choose the appropriate reasoning mode (lookup, pattern recognition, exploration) based on the complexity of the problem at hand.
  • Construct and refine agent configurations, which include static personas, dynamic behaviors, and functional memory systems.
  • Design bounded Operational Patient Domains (OPDs) with clear inclusions, exclusions, capabilities, and escalation protocols.
  • Establish verification loops and simulation-based testing to assess agent performance against defined customer KPIs.
  • Write Python code for tool integrations and API orchestration within client environments.
  • Develop evaluation suites that govern deployments based on customer-specific success metrics.
  • Engage with domain experts through structured interviews to capture critical reasoning patterns and clinical protocols.
  • Provide support to technical power users through git-based workflows, facilitating rapid iterations.
  • Implement adversarial testing to proactively identify and mitigate potential failure modes.
  • Ensure agents maintain audit-ready provenance through version control and evidence links.
  • Contribute to the systematic development of implementation patterns across various problem domains.

What We Are Looking For

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in AI engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Python.
  • Strong understanding of AI frameworks and deployment methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A passion for improving healthcare delivery through innovative technology.
