Minimum Requirements:High school diploma. For Level II and above roles, prior relevant work experience is required. Capability to perform physically demanding archaeological fieldwork, including lifting up to 40 lbs and repetitive movements. Effective communication of site-related information, issues, and concerns to the Field Supervisor. Punctual attendance and readiness for all weather conditions, with appropriate gear available. Reliable means of transportation to and from the assigned office or designated project meeting location is essential. Demonstrated sensitivity and respect towards Indigenous cultures and peoples. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in archaeology or anthropology. Proven ability to identify and collect cultural materials responsibly. Demonstrated physical fitness and stamina for fieldwork tasks.

AECOM is actively looking for talented individuals to fill the role of Archaeology Field Technician (Levels I to IV). This position will be based in our offices located in London, Barrie, Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Mississauga, or Hamilton. These roles are part of a unionized workforce in accordance with the collective agreement with LiUNA.

As a technician, you will play a vital role in supporting archaeological fieldwork (Stages 2–4) under the supervision of a Field Supervisor. Your responsibilities will include artifact recovery, field documentation, and aiding in team leadership and training initiatives. Please note that the position requires travel throughout Ontario and the ability to work in varying weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of a Field Supervisor.
  • Identify and recover Indigenous and Euro-Canadian artifacts.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety protocols and all AECOM procedures.
  • Engage in extensive travel across Ontario for extended periods.
  • Assume a junior leadership role during field operations.
  • Assist the Field Supervisor with various technical aspects of fieldwork.
  • Contribute to the training and development of new team members.
  • Model exemplary behavior for teammates and undertake additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.

It is important to note that LIUNA has been certified by the Labour Relations Board to represent individuals in the stated position. All new hires will be kept informed of any changes to their employment terms and conditions due to this process.
