Qualifications

Required Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Master's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Leadership. Current active RN license (compact or eligible for New Hampshire licensure).5+ years of progressive nursing leadership experience within an acute care hospital setting. Direct inpatient leadership experience, including Med-Surg or comparable service lines. Preferred Qualifications:Experience managing multi-unit or service-line operations. Prior Director-level nursing leadership experience. Demonstrated readiness for advancing to executive nursing leadership roles.

We are in search of a dynamic and seasoned Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) to spearhead nursing leadership initiatives within a large and complex acute care hospital setting.

This pivotal role collaborates extensively with the Chief Nursing Officer to enhance clinical quality, operational excellence, workforce engagement, and strategic growth objectives. The ACNO will have hands-on operational oversight of several inpatient service lines and will be instrumental in succession planning, regulatory compliance, and performance enhancement.

The ideal candidate is a proven nursing leader with substantial inpatient acute care and Med-Surg leadership experience, poised to transition into Chief Nursing Officer responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Clinical Quality & Safety

  • Champion enterprise-wide nursing quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives.

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, accreditation, and professional practice standards.

  • Drive performance improvement initiatives linked to quality metrics, patient outcomes, and risk mitigation.

  • Conduct executive-level rounding with patients, staff, and physicians.

Operations & Service Excellence

  • Oversee operational management for designated inpatient departments and strategic initiatives.

  • Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary leaders to foster patient-centered care delivery.

  • Support service recovery efforts and strategies aimed at enhancing patient experience.

  • Promote a professional practice environment conducive to recruitment, retention, and engagement.

People Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and cultivate nursing leaders, emphasizing autonomy, accountability, and critical thinking.

  • Work with nursing education teams to evaluate competency, onboarding, and development needs.

  • Facilitate leadership succession planning and the development of high-potential talent.

  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with physician and operational leaders.

Strategic Growth & Innovation

  • Engage in the planning and implementation of new clinical services and growth initiatives.

  • Contribute to capital planning, renovations, and new construction projects as assigned.

  • Lead or sponsor system-wide projects and interdisciplinary workgroups.
