A bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent technical discipline, preferably in electrical engineering or power engineering. Experience in delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE, and SPT, adhering to each operator’s standards. Project experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV. Established client relationship management and business development skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

As a vital senior member of the Transmission & Distribution team, you will lead and collaborate with clients to successfully deliver intricate overhead line design projects.

Your primary responsibility as the Principal Overhead Line Engineer will be to provide technical support and leadership to the overhead lines teams on transmission projects. This team will engage in various projects involving overhead transmission lines up to 400kV.

  • Lead technical support and oversee the team in delivering overhead line design on complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Provide technical expertise for bids and proposals and represent the company in client meetings as the Principal Engineer, leveraging your experience on exciting and diverse projects.
  • Take full ownership of project scope and the technical delivery of overhead line works.
  • Deliver expert technical evaluations and problem-solving solutions to team members.
  • Assist in drafting proposals that detail project timelines, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
  • Provide technical support throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and participation in public consultations.
  • Oversee design activities related to the overhead line, including PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structural analysis, design criteria formulation, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor blowout analysis, swing angle assessments, damper system recommendations, structural spotting, clearance reports, and selection of conductors and insulators.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, perform conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
