About Our Team
The Merge team is committed to addressing the most ambitious challenges in molecular engineering, synthetic biology, and neuroscience. Our Research Platform Team is tasked with constructing the experimental capabilities essential for swiftly and rigorously tackling these issues. We create instruments and pipelines that expedite molecular assembly, protein expression, mammalian cell culture, advanced microscopy, and sequencing, along with some unique custom methods. Collaboration with various program teams is key to establishing and optimizing these capabilities, automating processes where beneficial, and integrating with our data science and machine learning frameworks. Our innovative approaches are designed to significantly enhance throughput and drive continuous advancement.
Role Overview
As an Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing automation pipelines to accelerate our key research initiatives. This position will utilize your existing technical and scientific knowledge while challenging you to quickly adapt to new scientific fields and develop additional experimental capabilities. You will work closely with program leads, project scientists, data scientists, and engineers to collaboratively design, implement, and scale research pipelines. This position requires independent work and may involve recruiting additional team members to support various projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with program leads and project scientists to identify automation requirements and strategies.
Leverage biological contexts and experimental insights to inform automation strategies and execution.
Design, acquire, construct, program, and validate instrumentation and software, providing training to project teams.
Ensure the quality, reliability, and integrity of data produced by automated pipelines, including establishing and integrating QC checkpoints.
Work with data science and machine learning engineers to integrate metadata tracking, computational design, and analysis into experimental workflows.
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to streamline automation processes.
