Role Overview
We are on the lookout for a Backend Staff Engineer who will serve as a technical expert and architectural leader for our backend systems. This position focuses on tackling complex engineering challenges, scaling distributed systems, and establishing backend engineering standards across the organization.
This is not a management role; instead, you will act as a technical authority, collaborating with Engineering Managers while taking charge of technical depth and backend architecture decisions. You will thrive in a dynamic startup environment where backend systems are critical to product capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Architecture & System Design
- Create and enhance scalable, secure, and resilient backend systems.
- Architect high-availability APIs and distributed services.
- Establish best practices for reliability, observability, and performance.
Deep Technical Contribution
- Write high-quality, production-ready backend code.
- Lead refactoring initiatives and performance enhancements.
- Identify system bottlenecks and implement scalable solutions.
- Design data models, caching strategies, and asynchronous workflows.
Technical Influence
- Provide technical guidance across teams.
- Facilitate complex design discussions and evaluate trade-offs.
- Enhance backend development standards and documentation practices.
Scalability & Reliability
- Design systems capable of managing high-traffic and transaction-intensive workloads.
- Define strategies for load balancing, scaling, monitoring, and failure management.
- Optimize system instrumentation and monitoring practices.
