Position Overview

DLR Group is in search of a skilled Behavioral Health Planner / Designer to become a key member of our national Justice + Civic practice. This role encompasses leading the strategic planning and design of facilities that foster healing, equity, and transformative experiences through specialized behavioral health design solutions. With our hybrid work model, we offer a flexible balance between office presence and remote work. Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with integrated teams of architects, engineers, and specialized consultants.
  • Lead the initial planning and design of behavioral health facilities in community, justice, and civic contexts.
  • Create functional layouts that incorporate therapeutic design principles, de-escalation strategies, and security considerations.
  • Develop evidence-based design solutions that bolster mental health treatment, recovery, and reintegration.
  • Design facilities for adult crisis care, sobering, substance use, and residential treatment.
  • Ensure designs prioritize client and staff safety while fostering a therapeutic atmosphere.
  • Implement sustainable design practices and adhere to WELL building standards in behavioral health environments.
