About the job
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is committed to enhancing the environment and safeguarding public health for all New Yorkers. We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water daily, expertly manage wastewater and stormwater, and actively work to mitigate air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. As the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the nation, our team of nearly 6,000 employees oversees a comprehensive water supply system that includes 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes, all within a vast 2,000 square mile watershed that stretches 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) manages a capital projects portfolio valued at $35 billion, with an additional $13.6 billion projected for the next decade. These initiatives enable DEP to maintain and operate a top-tier water supply system while ensuring sustainability and resilience.
The In-House Design (IHD) division within BEDC provides crucial design and engineering services tailored to operational needs, aligning with BEDC’s core values of safety, schedule adherence, quality, and exceptional customer service. IHD oversees projects from initial business cases through preliminary design, procurement, construction, and final turnover to operations. It consists of two divisions: Design Services and Engineering Services.
Engineering Services encompasses Quality Assurance, Laboratory Services, Specifications/Standard Operating Procedures, Sustainability, and BIM/CADD sections. This division emphasizes project sustainability, material testing, quality reviews, and document standardization while utilizing state-of-the-art BIM/CADD technology to enhance engineering design processes.
The Design Services division includes Architectural, Site Civil, Structural, Process Mechanical/HVAC, Water Tunnel Mechanical Systems, and Electrical disciplines. Each section is responsible for creating detailed design and construction documents, engineering plans, and specifications for water supply, sewer, and wastewater treatment infrastructure, also providing design support during construction. IHD projects are prioritized by the Agency, representing some of the largest public works contracts in the City, and contribute to the long-term welfare of New Yorkers.
The BEDC is seeking to hire a BIM Designer I for the IHD BIM/CADD Section in Queens, NY. The selected candidate will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary engineering design team, delivering engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for new and existing facilities. Under the guidance of senior design professionals, the BIM Designer will play a vital role in the design and execution of impactful projects.
