You should possess the following:Essential Skills & Experience:Comprehensive technical knowledge of security with specialized expertise in blast analysis and design. Demonstrated ability to identify operational and strategic requirements that inform design. Proficiency in blast modeling and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to accurately simulate blast wave-structure interactions. Experience with ANSYS, AutoDyn, or similar software for advanced 3D finite element modeling and fluid-structure interaction. Strong grasp of physical security measures (doors, locks, walls, fencing, glazing) and relevant performance standards. Experience in threat reduction, structural vulnerability analyses, and façade assessments.

Our experts deliver innovative and cost-effective protective design solutions across various sectors, including high-rise buildings, petrochemical facilities, aviation, defense, and transportation infrastructure. We specialize in structural hardening, enhancing the resilience of individuals and structures against accidental or intentional blast and impact events while maintaining aesthetic and cost efficiency.

Your Role:

As a full-time Blast Associate Technical Lead within our Building Engineering Division, based in one of our UK offices, you will be an integral part of AECOM’s Specialisms Operating Unit within the Security & Technology engineering group. Your primary focus will be providing specialized blast design and support services.

You will work collaboratively with our Security and Structural teams, enhancing design activities across a diverse range of projects, from office fit-outs and mixed-use developments to industrial facilities and critical government and commercial establishments.

Your Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Technical Leadership & Design: Offer expert technical guidance on blast and protection engineering, leading the design of blast protection measures, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and complex structural analysis.
  • Project Delivery: Manage the production and workload for blast-related projects, develop work plans, and ensure high standards of quality management and technical assurance.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with clients to understand their objectives, identify challenges, and devise effective solutions while engaging with sector leads within our Building & Places Business unit.
  • Business Development: Participate in business development initiatives aimed at driving sales and securing new projects.
  • Risk & Threat Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of threats and risks to determine their severity and appropriate responses.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Create high-quality documentation, including employer requirements, specifications, feasibility studies, and design concepts.
  • Project Management: Oversee projects on behalf of clients, including progress reporting and contract administration where applicable.
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Actively promote best practices in Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
