Expertise in blast modeling and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for accurate representation of blast wave-structure interactions. Proficiency in ANSYS, AutoDyn, or similar software for advanced 3D finite element modeling and fluid-structure interactions. A strong grasp of physical security solutions (doors, locks, walls, fencing, glazing) and applicable performance standards. Experience in threat reduction, structural vulnerability assessments, and façade and glass evaluations.

Our division focuses on delivering practical and economical protective design solutions across various sectors, including high-rise buildings, petrochemical plants, aviation, defense, and transportation infrastructure, among others. We specialize in structural enhancements to increase the resilience of individuals and structures against both accidental and intentional blast and impact incidents, ensuring these solutions are integrated into the design while maintaining cost-effectiveness and aesthetic appeal.

Your Role and Responsibilities!

We are looking for a full-time Blast Associate Technical Lead to become part of our Building Engineering Division, situated in one of our UK offices.

As a vital member of AECOM’s Specialisms Operating Unit within the Security & Technology engineering group, you will provide specialized blast design and support services. You will work closely with our Security and Structural teams, enhancing their design initiatives across a diverse range of projects, from office fit-outs and mixed-use developments to industrial facilities and critical government and commercial organizations.

Your contribution will be instrumental in delivering innovative blast protection solutions. Your specific duties will include:

  • Technical Leadership & Design: Offer expert technical insights in blast and protection engineering. Guide the design of blast protection measures, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling of effects on structures and complex structural analysis.
  • Project Delivery: Manage the production and workload for blast-related projects. Develop work plans, outline tasks, and ensure quality control and technical assurance.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clients to grasp their business practices and objectives, identify challenges, and devise effective solutions. Communicate with sector leads within our Building & Places Business unit and connect with general Building Engineering teams.
  • Business Development: Assist in business development efforts, including sales and project acquisition.
  • Risk & Threat Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of risks, threats, and consequences to evaluate severity and appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Generate high-quality documentation, encompassing employer’s requirements, specifications, feasibility studies, and concept/scheme designs.
  • Project Management: Oversee projects on behalf of clients, including progress reporting and contract administration as necessary.
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Advocate for best practices in Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) and contribute to knowledge dissemination across the team.
