Role Overview

SumUp is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager to spearhead the acquisition of new business by promoting our cutting-edge payment and POS solutions to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across the UK, with a primary focus on the hospitality sector.

This role is ideal for a confident individual who excels in prospecting, understanding customer needs, executing impactful demonstrations, and creating compelling value propositions, all within a fast-paced sales cycle.

You will be responsible for overseeing your entire territory, from self-generated leads to pipeline management, pricing strategies, and closing deals. This position requires a strong sense of ownership and an entrepreneurial spirit.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Drive new business through proactive field prospecting, cold outreach, and local networking.
  • Market and sell payment and POS solutions to SMB merchants, especially in the hospitality sector.
  • Target well-established businesses with a monthly transaction volume of £25k or more.
  • Conduct structured discovery sessions to understand business operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide tailored product demonstrations for POS and payment solutions.
  • Engage in pricing discussions and close deals using a consultative, value-driven approach.
  • Manage your sales pipeline, forecasting, and activity in alignment with SumUp standards.
  • Build and utilize referrals from your existing merchant base and local community.

Who We’re Looking For

  • At least 2 years of proven experience in B2B field sales focused on new business acquisition.
  • Recent positions must have emphasized new business development.
  • Demonstrated experience selling to SMB customers with territory-based strategies.
  • Preferred background in merchant services, payments, and/or POS systems.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates with relevant technical or hospitality-related field sales experience.
  • A true self-starter with a proactive attitude.
  • Valid full UK driving license is required.
