About the job

Red 6 is at the forefront of Augmented Reality (AR) innovation, specializing in synthetic air combat training that redefines pilot training experiences. Our flagship technology, the Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS), empowers pilots to face cognitive challenges in a realistic and scalable training environment, simulating dynamic outdoor scenarios.

The Role

We are in search of an accomplished Chief Engineer to join our vibrant team in Louisville, CO. As the principal technical authority, you will oversee system architecture and ensure the integrity of the technical baseline for our ATARS product. This pivotal role encompasses comprehensive technical leadership across hardware, software, optics, head tracking, eye tracking, embedded software, and aircraft mission system interfaces. You will be responsible for enforcing disciplined systems engineering practices, managing configuration control of the technical baseline, and ensuring architectural consistency from initial concept through to flight demonstration and final delivery. As a highly technical and cross-disciplinary leader, you will guide essential design decisions, perform trade studies, and transform customer requirements into practical system and subsystem specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical definition, execution, and delivery of the ATARS hardware and software system architecture, including headsets, electronics, optics, sensors, embedded software, and aircraft interfaces.

  • Oversee the integration of ATARS with aircraft data buses (such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC, Ethernet-based architectures) and open mission systems.

  • Chair Engineering Change Boards and participate in Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) to maintain strict change control and configuration management.

  • Ensure the integrity of the technical baseline, encompassing system requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), architectural artifacts, RVTM, technical drawings, verification plans, and compliance matrices.

  • Prepare for milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, flight readiness) ensuring artifact maturity.

  • Define and safeguard safety-critical boundaries between ATARS and aircraft systems, collaborating with Airworthiness and Integration teams.

  • Conduct technical trade studies and manage Technical Performance Measures (TPMs) across clarity, latency, weight, power, and thermal domains.

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
