The Office of the New York City Comptroller acts as the City’s primary fiscal steward, overseeing audits of City agencies, managing pension funds, and ensuring the advancement of policies that foster equity, transparency, and effective governance. Under the leadership of Comptroller Mark Levine, the Office is dedicated to enhancing public systems, increasing affordability, and achieving equitable outcomes for all New Yorkers.
Through its Bureau of Asset Management (BAM), the Office serves as the custodian and delegated investment advisor for the five New York City Pension Funds. The Comptroller also serves as a trustee on each pension fund board. BAM is responsible for managing investments, operations, risk, and ESG considerations for the funds. With a commitment to collaboration, personal development, and teamwork, BAM strives to deliver exceptional investment results for all stakeholders while providing outstanding support to plan Trustees and acting as a responsible steward of resources for plan beneficiaries and the City of New York.
The Chief of Staff will collaborate with the leadership team to spearhead special projects that span across teams within the agency, focusing on strategic planning, both investment and operational, trustee relationships, and ESG initiatives. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leading priority special projects for the agency, including long-term strategic planning, special events, and ESG initiatives.
- Restructuring team workflows and roles to better align with BAM's interests and the needs of the system trustees, including a thorough examination of current administrative systems and their rationalization as necessary.
- Managing the preparation of all Trustee communications such as investment memos, board meeting materials, and agendas.
- Overseeing the BAM Investment Committee's schedules, material reviews, and preparations.
- Monitoring and advising the BAM’s Chief Investment Officer on bureau PS and OTPS budgets.
- Coordinating with other departments and bureaus within the Comptroller’s office regarding agency-wide priorities.
- Collaborating with Communications and IT departments on external communications and transparency.
- Establishing additional systems within BAM as required.
- Representing the Bureau in internal and external meetings as necessary.
- Maintaining confidential records on behalf of the Assistant Comptroller.
- Executing other related duties and managing additional special projects as required.
