The Compositing Supervisor is pivotal in harmonizing the artistic and technical aspects of shots produced by the 2D team. Acting as the custodian of visual integrity and process, this role partners closely with VFX and CG Supervisors, production teams, and art direction to guarantee that all outputs adhere to the project's overarching vision.
As a hands-on expert, mentor, and workflow coordinator, the Supervisor instills high standards within their team while ensuring meticulous planning and seamless execution of tasks.
Main Responsibilities
Creative Excellence
Interpret the project's artistic vision into clear, actionable guidance for compositing artists.
Facilitate daily reviews, evaluate internal versions, and steer artists towards exceptional creative outcomes.
Collaborate with the VFX and CG Supervisors to tackle intricate visual challenges and foster interdepartmental cohesion.
Propose feasible artistic solutions mindful of technical, budgetary, and production limitations.
Engage in the creation or execution of significant shots or complex sequences.
Technical Excellence
Develop and uphold a stringent technical methodology that complements the Rodeo FX pipeline.
Ensure compliance with scripts, optimize rendering, and verify the quality of all deliverables.
Contribute to the design and documentation of compositing tools or templates.
Oversee shot continuity and guarantee the technical quality of the work.
Collaborate closely with other departments to swiftly identify and resolve technical issues.
Leadership & Communication
Inspire, motivate, and mentor artists throughout the project lifecycle.
Articulate objectives, provide feedback, and set expectations clearly during briefings, daily reviews, and one-on-one sessions.
Maintain composure in high-pressure situations, make informed decisions, and escalate issues to the appropriate teams (production, supervision, HR, etc.) when necessary.
Promote a collaborative work environment that reflects Rodeo FX’s core values.
Support team growth, identify training needs, and share expertise.
Project Management
Participate in bidding, artist selection, and delivery scheduling alongside production.
Track shot progress, preempt potential bottlenecks, and adapt priorities as needed.
Act decisively when deviations from objectives, standards, or professional ethics occur.
Provide continuous performance feedback, assist with evaluations, and contribute to talent development.
Assist production with bid preparation and delivery documentation as needed.
