Qualifications

At least 5 years of experience as a Compositing Artist within the VFX industry. Proficient in Nuke and/or Flame software. Strong familiarity with Shotgun. Expertise in photographic techniques, including color, lighting (reflection, refraction, shadows), perspective, and composition. Comprehensive understanding of the VFX production pipeline. Ability to maintain composure under pressure while serving as a positive role model and mentor.

The Compositing Supervisor plays a pivotal role in our animation department, ensuring that all output meets the rigorous quality standards and specifications of each project. Collaborating closely with the VFX Supervisor and CG Supervisor, they devise strategies to address technical challenges while adhering to the Rodeo FX pipeline and honoring the creative vision of our clients.

This role is key in facilitating seamless communication between production and other departments and involves delegating workloads effectively. As both an artistic and technical guide, the Compositing Supervisor will mentor, train, and provide constructive feedback to Prep and Compositing Artists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Department and Production team to plan and implement workflows and methodologies tailored to the project, ensuring an optimal creative and technical approach that aligns with project requirements, budgets, and timelines.
  • Advise on potential tool developments and engage in creating specialized tools, ensuring thorough testing and clear documentation before integration.
  • Assist in artist casting for projects and, in partnership with Production, assign shots and sequences based on the artists’ skills and expertise.
  • Clearly convey the creative vision and objectives to the team, ensuring accountability for individual and collective results.
  • Guide and oversee artists’ work throughout the project, closely monitoring quality and conducting review sessions to ensure alignment with client expectations.
  • Engage in complex shots or sequences as needed.
  • Address visual, artistic, and technical challenges throughout the project in collaboration with other supervisors, escalating matters to the Head of Department when necessary.
  • Keep track of upcoming milestones and inform the project team of work status, challenges, and potential solutions.
  • Proactively manage team dynamics, ensuring a positive work environment and adherence to company values.
  • Communicate staffing shortages to the Head of Department and assist in reallocating tasks where necessary.
  • Mentor team members to support their professional growth.
