We are seeking an outstanding Controls and Automation Engineer to become a vital part of our Operations Team, located at our cutting-edge factory in North Acton.
Role Overview:
In the position of Controls and Automation Engineer, you will engage in the entire project lifecycle, from the initial system specifications through to the commissioning and final handover to production teams.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in mechanical engineering, automation, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a related field, and will excel in solving problems within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead controls and automation projects from inception to completion, ensuring all requirements are met and the solutions are ready for production.
- Design, program, and test PLC-based control systems for new equipment, production lines, and new product introduction (NPI) projects, ensuring robustness and scalability.
- Support NPI by developing and modifying automation solutions as our products and processes advance.
- Foster continuous improvement within our systems, enhancing safety, reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
- Provide hands-on expertise during system upgrades, commissioning, and critical production support.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop practical and scalable automation solutions that meet manufacturing needs.
- Contribute to the development of our automation standards, best practices, and system architecture as we expand our factory capabilities.
Candidate Profile:
We are looking for someone with the following skills and attributes. If you feel you are a great fit, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every single requirement:
- A minimum of one year of experience programming PLC systems (IEC 61131-3).
- Proficient understanding of electrical schematics, wiring, and electrical safety protocols.
- Ability to specify and document comprehensive control system solutions derived from factory requirements and NPI projects.
- Capable of working efficiently under pressure, particularly during production line stoppages for upgrades or repairs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Siemens TIA, particularly with S7-1500 PLCs.
- Knowledge in deploying complex multi-axis motion control systems.
- Experience with closed-loop motion control systems, specifically utilizing linear and rotary servo motors.
- Hands-on experience with wiring DC control circuits and AC (low voltage) power systems in compliance with accepted standards.
- Familiarity with electrical legislation, safety procedures, and standards.
