About the job

Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) supports students from underrepresented backgrounds as they pursue mathematics, science, engineering, and computer science. The organization provides access to rigorous STEM education, helping students from middle school through college graduation. BEAM’s programs build strong communities and guide students through key transitions, including college admissions and financial aid.

Since its founding in 2011 with a small summer program, BEAM has expanded to serve over 450 students at six summer sites and more than 600 students in year-round programs in New York City and Los Angeles. The BEAM National pilot now reaches about 1,000 elementary students in seven states. Data shows that BEAM’s 7th-grade summer program participants are 1.3 times more likely to declare a STEM major than their peers.

Role overview

BEAM is preparing a new initiative for 9th-grade students, starting in Fall 2026. Students will select majors that cover topics not often found in standard classrooms. Each major includes a series of engaging classes and leads to a capstone project in 11th grade, encouraging independence and real-world research skills.

This part-time position centers on developing the curriculum for the Probability, Game Theory, and Decision Making major. The curriculum developer will create classes and capstone projects that challenge high school students and provide authentic enrichment experiences.

Project timeline

The project will run from summer 2026 through May 2028. This is a part-time role; weekly hours will be determined as the project develops.
