BROOKLYN LEGAL SERVICES
SEEKS A DIRECTOR FOR OUR
DISABILITY ADVOCACY PROJECT
About Us
Brooklyn Legal Services, a part of Legal Services NYC, is committed to delivering high-quality and innovative legal representation to address the urgent legal needs of Brooklyn's diverse low-income residents. Our focus includes preserving affordable and decent housing, ensuring income support, rectifying abusive lending practices, promoting family stability, addressing domestic violence, and advocating for individuals with disabilities. The Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) specifically assists low-income Brooklyn residents seeking federal Social Security benefits based on mental and/or physical disabilities.
DAP provides comprehensive support to clients in case development, representation at administrative hearings, appeals, and post-award issues. We work closely with other service providers and community partners to create and implement strategies aimed at dismantling systemic barriers to accessing disability benefits. DAP serves clients with various disabilities, including those who are home-bound, dealing with mental health challenges, or managing complex treatment regimens. Our highly skilled advocates specialize in assisting clients in securing disability benefits. The Director will enhance existing advocacy initiatives and expand DAP's efforts to address systemic barriers.
