Position Overview

The Director of Manufacturing plays a pivotal leadership role in qualifying new product designs and executing the strategic vision for all manufacturing-related research, process innovation, and technology development. This role is essential for ensuring the swift and efficient transition of new products from R&D to a stable and thoroughly documented production state, facilitating future volume transfer while adeptly managing the complexities associated with frequent engineering changes and qualification lots on the pilot line. The Director will lead and mentor a dedicated team of manufacturing professionals, oversee a significant budget, and work in close collaboration with cross-functional executive teams, including Product Development, Operations, and Quality.

Key Responsibilities

I. Strategic Vision

● Define and advocate for the long-term strategic roadmap for manufacturing technology and process innovation, ensuring alignment with overarching business objectives and product pipeline.
● Identify and assess emerging technologies: Research, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and automation.

II. Process Development and Optimization

● R&D/Engineering Partnership: Act as the primary manufacturing liaison, establishing and maintaining a robust partnership with R&D and Design Engineering to ensure new product designs are resilient, scalable, and optimized for manufacturing transfer.
● Supervise and facilitate the seamless transition of new product and process technologies from the R&D lab to full-scale internal manufacturing.
● Prioritization and Change Management: Own daily prioritization for the Santa Clara line, swiftly allocating resources to address conflicting demands arising from engineering changes (ECs), new products and processes, and qualification runs.
● Continuous Improvement: Spearhead and implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies throughout all production processes to minimize waste, enhance throughput, and reduce unit costs.
