Role Overview

The Director of Software Engineering will spearhead the technical organization and facilitate the advancement of the company’s eCommerce and digital platform ecosystem. This leader will be pivotal in defining the engineering vision, expanding multiple technical teams, overseeing the development of new features, ensuring infrastructure reliability, and fostering innovation throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate should possess a robust background in Shopify, DTC eCommerce, and contemporary web architectures, complemented by demonstrated engineering leadership experience. Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

Lead, mentor, and nurture multi-disciplinary engineering teams (backend, frontend, full-stack, DevOps, QA).
Formulate and implement an engineering strategy that aligns with product priorities and business goals.
Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to plan initiatives, establish milestones, and guarantee timely delivery.
Cultivate a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Manage headcount planning, recruitment, team structure, and resource allocation to facilitate rapid expansion.

Technical Excellence

Establish and uphold high standards for system architecture, code quality, testing, and deployment.
Advocate for modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code, and observability.
Assess and implement technologies that promote scalability, reliability, and performance.
Collaborate with architects and senior engineers to enhance the company’s core platform and services.
Possess deep hands-on experience with:

Node.js, modern JavaScript (ES6+), and Shopify’s Liquid
Headless commerce configurations
Backend services in Node.js or Python
API development, asynchronous programming, microservices

Guide teams in crafting clean, maintainable, and testable code.
Architect and sustain cloud-native, scalable services and RESTful APIs using contemporary frameworks.
