About the job

Who We Are:

Aurelius Systems is an innovative defense technology startup backed by venture capital, dedicated to developing autonomous, edge-deployed directed energy systems for countering unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Our mission is to engineer effective laser weapon systems capable of neutralizing drones.

Comprising a tight-knit team of around 10 engineers, former U. S. military personnel, and industry specialists, we are committed to enhancing America’s capabilities in directed energy technology. Our focus is to deliver the first cost-effective, reliable, and robust laser weapon systems.

Inspired by Marcus Aurelius’s teachings on diligent work and Henry Ford’s revolutionary approach to manufacturing, we embrace a culture of high output and minimal excuses. We operate with agility and resilience.

In addition to our lab in San Francisco, we also operate a manufacturing hub in Detroit, where we conduct field tests on our expansive 400-acre private range.

If you're a technician who prefers hands-on work in a dynamic environment rather than a typical lab setting, we encourage you to continue reading.

The Role and Your Impact:

We are seeking a proactive Hardware Technician who can transform drawings, schematics, and preliminary concepts into functional hardware swiftly. You will not be constrained by the need for perfect documentation; instead, you will be the key individual who innovates, constructs, troubleshoots, and refines processes to expedite future builds.

Your contributions will play a crucial role in accelerating the development of our systems. Speed is of the essence, and your expertise will be a force multiplier.

What You'll Own:

  • Assemble, wire, and integrate electromechanical systems and prototypes under tight design timelines, primarily for custom hardware.

  • Construct and modify mechanical assemblies, wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and testing rigs and fixtures.

  • Facilitate rapid iterations by adjusting designs in response to challenges, suggesting assembly techniques, executing engineering change requests, and resolving physical issues.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and prototyping facilities.

  • Provide support to engineers during initial setups, debugging sessions, and field testing at our range.

  • Thoroughly document builds, revisions, and insights gained for clarity and efficiency in future projects.

  • Ensure the lab remains clean, organized, and safe for all team members.

What We're Looking For:

  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as a hardware technician, lab technician, or in a similar role.

  • Strong practical knowledge of electromechanical systems.
