Job Overview

We are looking for a proactive and collaborative Environmental Engineer to join our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team. This role is integral to the development and operation of Saronic’s Port Alpha shipyard, serving as the primary on-site environmental lead. You will be responsible for overseeing environmental due diligence, permitting, monitoring, and compliance throughout all phases of site development and shipyard operations. This includes transforming a coastal site into a fully operational shipyard, whether through greenfield development, redevelopment of industrial properties, or brownfield remediation. Additionally, you will manage environmental compliance programs related to air and water quality, stormwater management, hazardous waste, and materials, while also supporting environmental monitoring and regulatory reporting. Collaboration with engineering, construction, and operations teams will be essential to minimizing environmental risks and ensuring adherence to regulations during the development and operation of Port Alpha.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental due diligence and site assessments.
  • Lead environmental due diligence activities, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), site investigations, and coordination with environmental consultants.
  • Evaluate and manage environmental risks for greenfield and brownfield site development, including site characterization, remediation planning, and regulatory closure strategies.
  • Develop and implement the environmental permitting strategy for shipyard and waterfront infrastructure development.
  • Manage all permitting activities, including wetlands, dredging and fill permits, coastal development approvals, and USACE Section 404 and Section 10 permits.
  • Ensure integration of environmental requirements into site planning, engineering design, and construction activities.
  • Establish and oversee environmental compliance programs related to air and water quality, stormwater management, and hazardous waste.
