About the job
Staff Mechanical Design Engineer – Drone Defense Turret Systems
Company Overview:
Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a pioneering defense startup founded by two former Navy electrical engineers with extensive experience in robotics and software development. We are at the forefront of creating a compact, autonomous gun turret that utilizes cutting-edge computer vision and control systems to accurately target and neutralize small drones and loitering munitions. Our innovative approach presents significant technical challenges, making this an exhilarating environment for seasoned engineers.
Emphasizing an engineering-first culture, ACS champions technical excellence and innovation. Following our founders' successful exits from two prior ventures, which were acquired for a staggering $180M in 2022, we are dedicated to ensuring that the groundbreaking technologies we develop make a tangible impact in the real world.
Position Overview:
We seek a highly skilled Mechanical Designer with extensive expertise in mechanical simulations and electromechanical integration. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in designing for durability, reliability, and robustness in accordance with MIL-STD-810 standards. You will be instrumental in ensuring our products comply with rigorous environmental, vibration, and shock requirements while effectively integrating complex electromechanical components into our systems.
What You'll Do:
- Design and develop mechanical systems adhering to MIL-STD-810 specifications, ensuring resilience under vibration, shock, thermal, and environmental conditions.
- Conduct mechanical simulations (FEA, modal, vibration, thermal) to evaluate the durability and reliability of designs under operational stress.
- Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to integrate electromechanical components, ensuring a seamless interaction between mechanical structures and electrical systems.
- Lead structural integrity testing and analysis, confirming that designs meet environmental test criteria for military-grade systems.
- Develop and document mechanical design specifications, including detailed drawings, simulation reports, and testing protocols.
- Perform testing and validation to ensure mechanical designs meet the required performance and safety standards.
- Support prototype development and collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are effectively realized.
