Transport Manager -
Join our esteemed client based in Edinburgh as an accomplished Transport Manager to lead a dynamic and fast-paced department. This role is pivotal and hands-on, requiring close collaboration with the Transport Supervisor, Customer Service & Office Manager, as well as the Loading Department, to guarantee precise and timely deliveries to our valued customers. Our client manages a diverse fleet of approximately 20 vehicles, including vans and 12.5 to 18 tonne trucks, adhering to fixed delivery and collection schedules across Scotland and the North East of England for hotels and hospitality clients.
The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in manufacturing or logistics and will be a proven leader of a high-performing team. We seek an organized and dedicated professional who can enhance team performance within a rapidly expanding organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Transport Department and provide strategic guidance and planning support to Transport Supervisors;
- Manage the scheduling of all drivers, including van drivers, ensuring efficient rotas and rest days;
- Collaborate with the HR Department for the recruitment and selection of drivers;
- Ensure strict compliance with all Ministry of Transport and VOSA regulations;
- Assess and refine daily route scheduling for maximum efficiency;
- Implement safe working practices for all staff under your supervision, including conducting manual handling and safety training;
- Operate within financial budgets on a monthly basis;
- Monitor individual staff performance, offering coaching and training, while addressing performance or disciplinary issues in partnership with the HR team;
- Be adaptable with working hours, as the operation runs 24/7.
