Role Overview The MI Financial Appraisal Underwriting Department seeks an experienced Appraisal Underwriter in Columbus, Ohio. This position reviews and evaluates residential appraisals from third-party appraisers, ensuring each report meets MI Financial guidelines and government regulations. The role involves identifying discrepancies, collaborating with appraisers to resolve issues, and communicating appraisal decisions to internal teams. Main Responsibilities Review and underwrite residential appraisals using government underwriting guidelines and collateral analytics. Approve appraisals in line with MI Financial and agency standards. Complete required training to earn Conventional, FHA, and VA appraisal underwriting certifications. Work with appraisers to address and resolve discrepancies, securing necessary revisions. Share appraisal approval decisions with internal partners. Requirements Bachelor’s degree required. At least 3 years of experience in mortgage and appraisal underwriting. Skills and Abilities Strong communication skills to interact with corporate and branch staff, as well as appraisers. Customer service mindset and ability to manage workload with a sense of urgency. Attention to detail for accurate appraisal review and error reduction. Ability to research and interpret new government and lender guidelines. Problem-solving skills for appraisal underwriting and approval decisions. General administrative and computer proficiency, with openness to learning new systems. Work Environment This role is based in a typical office setting.
