About the job
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is committed to enhancing the environment and safeguarding public health for every New Yorker. We provide over 1.1 billion gallons of top-quality drinking water while efficiently managing wastewater and stormwater. As the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the nation, our team of nearly 6,000 employees ensures the delivery of vital services across a watershed spanning 2,000 square miles, encompassing 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes located 125 miles north and west of New York City.
Within the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC), we manage a robust portfolio of capital projects valued at $35 billion, with an additional $13.6 billion projected in our 10-year commitment plan. These projects are essential for maintaining and upgrading our exemplary water supply system.
The Water System Capital Program (WSCP) oversees the planning, design, construction management, and implementation of projects that uphold the integrity and quality of our critical infrastructure. As an Assistant Project Manager for the WSCP directorate, you will play a key role in supervising various water and wastewater system projects, including dams, aqueducts, wastewater treatment plants, bridges, and roadways within the watershed.
Under the direct supervision of the Accountable Manager, you will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of project designs and constructions. Your responsibilities will include monitoring permit requirements, resolving project-related issues, conducting field surveys, and preparing detailed reports on physical observations. Additionally, you will perform thorough reviews of contract documents, codes, and regulations to ensure compliance with project specifications. Your contribution will be pivotal in collaborating with the construction management team to oversee construction activities and engage in field investigations to develop innovative solutions for project challenges.
