Role overview
Brindley Engineering seeks a Staff Process Engineer in Lisle, IL. This position centers on process design for both new and existing facilities in refinery, chemical, and other industrial environments. The engineer will analyze, calculate, and design process equipment, supporting upgrades and new installations alike.
Main responsibilities
- Lead field and technical assessments of process units.
- Perform calculations and develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Create design documentation for downstream engineering teams and prepare equipment specifications.
- Compile scope of work packages for construction.
- Facilitate communication with clients and contractors, attend project meetings, and produce detailed written reports.
- Provide technical support during field execution, especially for outage and turnaround projects.
- Assist with constructability planning, proposal development, and cost estimation.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (P. E.) license preferred.
- Experience with P&ID development, heat and material balances, hydraulic and equipment sizing calculations, relief device sizing, API standards, and ASME codes.
- Familiarity with process simulation tools such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS is a plus.
- Ability to mentor and lead small teams.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Field assignment requirements
Field assignments may have specific requirements. Before deployment, candidates must meet all client site requirements. If unable or unwilling to do so, continued employment will depend on the availability of other suitable assignments. Requirements may include:
- Physical mobility on the ground and at heights.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Capability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work from platforms, scaffolding, or ladders using required fall protection.
