About The Role
The Telegraph prides itself on its vibrant reader community, focusing on enhancing subscriber loyalty and fostering robust relationships between readers and journalists. With a deep understanding of retention and subscriber growth, we are seeking a dedicated Head of Community to lead our initiatives.
As the Head of Community, you will guide a dynamic team of Editors who advocate for our readers' experiences and insights. Your role will ensure that our readers’ voices resonate throughout the Telegraph’s journalism, whether on our app, website, podcasts, videos, social media, or print publications. You will be responsible for shaping our community editorial strategy and collaborating closely with the Heads of Community Editorial and Moderation to innovate new products and initiatives that strengthen subscriber loyalty and retention.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic plan to expand our subscriber community across all platforms (homepage, app, newsletters, social media, video, and podcasts).
- Enhance engagement between subscribers and journalists on various stories, particularly in the comments section.
- Collaborate with senior commissioning and publishing editors to cultivate communities around the Telegraph’s core verticals.
- Leverage data analytics to create initiatives that promote meaningful interactions with our readership.
- Oversee our commenting strategy to encourage healthy debates on significant topics, while managing our team of Moderators to maintain the quality of discussions.
- Partner with the marketing and events team to create subscriber-focused events that promote retention.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in a senior role within a national publishing organization.
- Expertise in building and nurturing successful online communities.
- Proficient in leading a sizable team of editors.
- Strong background in commissioning, editing, and publishing engaging editorial content across various digital platforms.
- In-depth understanding of the digital publishing landscape and emerging media trends.
- Familiarity with publishing and workflow tools.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize analytics tools and data insights to guide editorial choices.
- Experience in leveraging technological innovations to elevate digital storytelling.
- Comprehensive knowledge of The Telegraph’s brand identity in both digital and print realms.
- Preferred experience with subscription models.
- Documented success in using personal judgment to enhance engagement metrics.
- Ability to innovate and push creative boundaries in all aspects of the role.
