The Waymo Safety team is instrumental in fostering and continuously enhancing the safety standards of our fully autonomous driving technology. Our specialists craft safety objectives and strategies, conducting thorough safety engineering analyses to ensure that safety considerations are integrated throughout our vehicle design and development lifecycle. The team advocates for safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles in collaboration with regulatory bodies, lawmakers, law enforcement, and both public and non-profit organizations. Additionally, the Safety Team provides guidance on compliance with pertinent environmental, health, and safety regulations.
In this impactful role, you will report directly to the Head of Safety Management and Best Practices.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Safety Case Investment: Leading research initiatives to develop and enhance safety case content linked to evaluation methodologies and scenario-based testing frameworks.
- Standardization Engagement: Serving as a key representative in UK-specific standardization organizations (e.g., BSI) and international forums (e.g., ISO) to influence discussions on ADS safety.
- Evaluation Research: Directing internal projects to identify best practices for quantifying safety benefits and ensuring evaluation rigor.
- Regional Strategic Reach: Acting as the regional expert on UK/EU safety research trends, ensuring our global safety strategy incorporates European regulatory specifics.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborating with Engineering and Product teams to convert research insights into practical testing requirements and safety claims.
- Scholarly Production: Writing white papers, research proposals, and conference publications to advance the field.
