AECOM is on the lookout for a Lead Mechanical Engineer specializing in Hyperscale Data Center projects. The ideal candidate will excel in designing and supervising the construction of advanced mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and fire suppression systems, tailored specifically for hyperscale data centers. While this position is based in Arlington, VA, we encourage applications from other AECOM office locations and welcome remote work arrangements under certain conditions.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our data center infrastructure. We seek a candidate with a robust mechanical engineering background, particularly with experience in high-density data centers.
This role provides the flexibility of a remote work schedule, with the potential to be based from various locations across the U. S. where AECOM has offices.
Although primarily remote, occasional travel may be necessary for client meetings, key project milestones, onsite collaboration sessions, or other essential activities. Travel will be scheduled in advance and expected to be infrequent.

Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary liaison for clients, addressing their queries and concerns professionally and promptly.
- Establish and nurture strong client relationships through regular communication to understand their needs and expectations.
- Coordinate across multiple disciplines as the lead mechanical engineer to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, overseeing the mechanical team, including HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing.
- Develop detailed specifications for mechanical equipment such as pumps, fans, and air handling units.
- Generate internal and external reports based on findings.
- Ensure that discipline plans align with overall project requirements regarding scope and schedule.
- Stay updated on relevant codes and technologies related to mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems specific to hyperscale data centers.
- Analyze and assess mechanical system performance, identifying areas for improvement and recommending upgrades.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to RFIs and resolving issues that arise.
- Participate in job site visits, project reviews, and collaboration sessions.
