Role Overview
As a GIS Data Science Engineer, you will take charge of customer data ingestion and develop QA/QC workflows that transform complex, real-world geoscience data into usable formats at scale. This position marries hands-on GIS execution with data engineering, allowing you to manage GIS workflows for various projects while automating processes to minimize manual labor and enhance repeatability.
Key Responsibilities
Manage Project GIS Workflows
- Prepare, curate, and deliver intricate client datasets covering both surface GIS and 3D subsurface contexts.
- Utilize GIS tools daily to assemble data layers, validate spatial alignment, and generate project outputs.
- Create detailed maps and figures for internal evaluations and client presentations, ensuring a polished cartographic finish when necessary.
Develop Ingestion and QA/QC Systems
- Ingest and normalize datasets, including:
- Drillhole and drill core data (primary focus)
- Airborne and other geophysical survey datasets
- Support geospatial layers and project metadata
- Standardize varied client formats into a cohesive framework to facilitate modeling workflows.
- Establish automated QA/QC checks to identify issues early, encompassing:
- Coordinate reference systems and transformations
- Units, conventions, missing data, duplicates, and outlier detection
- Schema validation, metadata integrity, and provenance tracking
