The Cost Engineer plays a crucial role in the complete lifecycle of cost estimation, benchmarking, supplier quote evaluation, negotiation support, and cost optimization of automotive components across a range of commodities. This position collaborates cross-functionally with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Finance, and Suppliers to guarantee competitive and optimized product costs throughout their lifecycle. Commodity Focus: Seating Systems, Interior and Exterior Trims, Hard and Soft Trims, Plastics, Glazing, Instrument Panel (IP), Center Console, Door Trim.Key Responsibilities:Cost Estimation & Breakdown: Develop detailed should-cost models based on:Raw material costing (PP, ABS, PC, steel, aluminum, foam, fabric, glass, etc.)Process costing (Injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, stamping, welding, painting, assembly)Tooling costs (Molds, dies, fixtures, jigs)Overhead & margin modelingConduct weight-based and feature-based cost calculations using CAD data.Utilize 3D models in Siemens NX for volume calculations, thickness studies, and feature complexity assessments.Maintain cost databases and commodity benchmarks.Supplier Quote Analysis: Evaluate supplier RFQ submissions, focusing on:Material price varianceProcess assumptionsCycle timeTool amortizationLocalization benefitsConduct gap analysis between supplier quotes and should-cost models, presenting findings to procurement for negotiation strategy.Negotiation & Procurement Support: Provide detailed cost breakdown logic during supplier negotiations.
