About Xaira Therapeutics
Xaira Therapeutics is a pioneering biotech startup that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize drug discovery and development. Our mission is to develop cutting-edge generative AI models that design innovative protein and antibody therapeutics, paving the way for the creation of medicines targeting previously challenging molecular targets. In addition, we are developing foundational models for biology and disease that enhance target elucidation and patient stratification. These technologies collectively aim to facilitate the ongoing discovery of novel therapies and improve the likelihood of success in drug development. Xaira proudly operates from the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and London.
About the Role
As a Principal Associate Scientist within our Protein Engineering group, you will play a vital role in our interdisciplinary team composed of highly creative and skilled professionals with exceptional expertise in protein characterization and engineering. This group is instrumental in driving our AI drug discovery initiatives and optimizing lead molecules. You will collaborate closely with protein designers, biologists, and other members of the drug discovery team.
We are seeking an exceptional library builder who possesses the ability to design, generate, and scale complex DNA assemblies for our protein engineering and display teams. This role demands extensive experience in combinatorial, designed, and naive library building, along with the necessary microbiological and protein-level expertise to express and qualify these assemblies once constructed. This hands-on position is ideal for someone who can seamlessly integrate NGS, protein biochemistry, and DNA assembly needs while building complex libraries efficiently.
About You
You are a passionate protein biochemist who takes pride in your laboratory skills. Your enthusiasm lies in display technology, drug discovery, and the development of innovative treatments for patients. You are detail-oriented, organized, and thrive on collaboration. You flourish in a fast-paced environment where pushing the boundaries of what is possible is the norm.
What You'll Do and Learn
- Design and implement various innovative selection techniques using synthetic libraries, including phage, yeast, and mammalian display.
- Utilize FACS sorting, plate-based screening, and NGS to identify binders.
- Establish and employ automation to further rank leads based on affinity and function.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot protein reagents.
- Train and mentor junior team members.
