About GiveDirectly
GiveDirectly (GD) is on a mission to revolutionize international philanthropy and positively impact millions of lives by delivering cash grants directly to the world's most impoverished individuals. According to the Brookings Institution, an estimated $70 billion in cash transfers is necessary to bridge the poverty gap; however, the aid sector currently allocates $135 billion annually, much of which is spent on unproven interventions. GD aims to establish cash transfers as the gold standard for foreign aid, akin to how index funds are viewed in the financial sector, thereby hastening the eradication of extreme poverty.
Since its inception in 2011, GD has successfully raised over $1 billion and has provided cash support to more than 1.5 million recipients across 15 countries. Our commitment to large-scale experimental research has demonstrated significant positive impacts for our program beneficiaries. As a result, GD has earned recognition as one of the most innovative non-profit organizations by Fast Company, and the growing cash transfer movement, along with GD’s pivotal role in it, has been highlighted in esteemed publications such as the New York Times Magazine, This American Life, Foreign Affairs, and The Economist.
Our organizational culture is characterized by transparency, analytical rigor, agility, and a flat hierarchy. Our diverse global team, comprising approximately 150 members and around 650 individuals in country operations, represents 21 nations and speaks 69 different languages. Our team includes software engineers, experienced humanitarian professionals, former management consultants, public servants, researchers, and field operators, creating a vibrant and dynamic workplace.
