Main Requirements
- Applicants must hold a valid UK driver’s license and have reliable access to a vehicle.
- Candidates are required to present a current Enhanced CRB clearance.
- References must be provided to validate interpreting and translation experience.
- Fluency in English as well as cultural competence in your native language(s) is essential.
Role Overview
The Interpreter & Translator will engage in consecutive interpretation, maintaining proximity to the speaker and ensuring accurate and complete language conversion without omissions or alterations.
Translators will work across diverse industries, handling a wide range of documents, including legal, scientific, and literary texts, with a commitment to conveying the original meaning as precisely as possible. A strong command of at least two languages is typically required.
Interpretation Responsibilities
- Interpreters may only operate in their native language.
- Comfortably interpret in various settings including Mental Health, GP Practices, Hospitals, Police, Courts, Local Authorities, Schools, and Solicitors.
- Provide real-time verbal interpretation while maintaining context, meaning, tone, and technical terminology.
- Consult reference materials to stay updated with terminology and acquire specialized knowledge when necessary to ensure clarity, particularly in cases of conflicting meanings.
- Attend assigned engagements and manage own transportation to and from assignments.
- Uphold high standards of professional behavior, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to the Interpreter Code of Conduct established by NRPSI, IOL, ATC, and ITI.
- Participate in community engagement projects and gather feedback as required.
