Main Requirements
- Candidates must hold a full UK driver’s license and have their own vehicle.
- Successful applicants should possess a current, valid Enhanced CRB clearance.
- References are required to validate interpreting and translation experience.
- Fluency in English is essential, alongside cultural competence and fluency in native language(s).
Role Overview
The role entails consecutive interpretation, requiring the interpreter to be close to the speaker and accurately convert dialogue from one language to another without omission or embellishment. Translators will engage with a variety of documents across industries including scientific, legal, and literary fields, ensuring precise conveyance of original meanings.
Interpreter Responsibilities
- Interpreters are expected to operate in their native language only.
- Comfortably interpret in various settings such as Mental Health, GP practices, Hospitals, Dental practices, Police settings, Court proceedings, Local Authorities, Schools, Councils, Solicitors, and within health and social services.
- Provide real-time verbal interpretation, with a focus on context, meaning, tone, and specialized terminology.
- Utilize reference materials to stay abreast of terminology and gain specialist knowledge for clarity, particularly in cases of ambiguous meanings.
- Must attend scheduled assignments and manage personal transportation.
- Maintain high standards of professional conduct, confidentiality, and adhere to the Interpreter Code of Conduct as outlined by NRPSI, IOL, ATC, and ITI.
- Engage in community outreach projects and gather feedback.
