Position Summary
As a Class A HeidenHain 5 Axis Horizontal Milling Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating advanced Horizontal Milling centers equipped with HeidenHain controls. Your primary role will involve the fabrication of both metallic and nonmetallic components by executing essential functions and responsibilities. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and train fellow employees in machine setup and operation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to ascertain dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences, and setup requirements for finished workpieces.
- Accurately measure and mark reference points on materials or workpieces to guide subsequent machining processes.
- Select, align, and secure appropriate fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials for machining.
- Calculate and configure HeidenHain controls to optimize machining parameters such as speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cuts, while effectively managing computerized machine control media.
- Initiate and monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions or deviations from tolerances, making necessary adjustments to machine controls or media.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze challenges and assist in developing optimal solutions.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced employees throughout the production process.
- Maintain a professional, safe, and clean work environment by adhering to Granite State Manufacturing policies, ensuring timely attendance, wearing safety glasses in designated areas, and following safety practices to minimize errors.
- Foster teamwork by building effective relationships with managers/directors and coworkers, working together to achieve shared goals.
- Comply with GSM’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, strictly observing all applicable U. S. and international laws and regulations.
