The High School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is responsible for delivering an inspiring and challenging curriculum that enhances students’ reading, writing, and critical-thinking abilities. This role fosters a classroom atmosphere where every student feels valued, supported, and pushed to excel. The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge in English Language Arts and showcases effective classroom management skills, ensuring a safe, focused, and productive educational environment. Responsibilities include analyzing student performance to tailor instruction, maintaining regular communication with families, collaborating with fellow educators, participating in coaching and professional growth opportunities, and embodying the KPPS culture and core values.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Responsibilities
- Ensure all students feel valued, affirmed, and challenged each day.
- Design and implement rigorous, engaging unit and daily lesson plans utilizing provided curricula/resources.
- Integrate core values into daily lessons and school practices, applying effective classroom management strategies.
- Maintain a well-organized, safe, and focused learning environment.
- Continuously analyze student work and academic data to adapt lessons and inform instructional strategies.
- Provide necessary accommodations and modifications to support student growth and success.
- Keep accurate student grades and maintain strong communication with families regarding student progress.
- Model and enforce all school policies within the classroom.
- Serve as a positive role model for students.
Professional Responsibilities
- Own your professional development by meeting regularly with an instructional coach, implementing feedback, and engaging in practice.
- Actively participate in school-wide professional development initiatives.
- Contribute positively to a grade team, collaborating with colleagues to address common challenges.
- Provide constructive, solutions-oriented feedback to peers and school leadership.

- Enroll in or complete a teacher certification program if applicable.
School Responsibilities
- Attend designated school functions outside of regular hours (Back to School Night, Report Card Conferences, Community Events, etc.).
- Help plan and execute all school-wide events.
- Build strong relationships with student families through home visits and participation in school activities.
- Perform necessary support duties (e.g., bus, lunch, and dismissal duties).
- Chaperone field trips and educational excursions.
- Be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as needed throughout the school year.
