Our Summer Internship Program provides an excellent opportunity for students to engage in temporary, full-time employment (35 hours per week) from June 1, 2026, through August 7, 2026. The work location is 777 Third Avenue, Manhattan, NY 10017.
The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is the primary manager of capital construction projects for the city, responsible for building and renovating essential civic facilities such as firehouses, libraries, police precincts, courthouses, senior centers, and more. We are committed to enhancing vital infrastructure, delivering roadway, sewer, and water main construction projects across all five boroughs, ensuring high-quality infrastructure that supports a healthy and resilient city.
Our Summer Internship Program allows a select group of students to gain invaluable experience in architecture, engineering, design, safety, and construction management within a public service context. Interns will receive hands-on technical experience through specific field assignments or task-oriented office work, paired with mentorship from senior technical staff. Participants will learn about the complexities involved in upgrading and building the city’s public infrastructure through seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training.
Additionally, the Borough-Based Jails Program aims to design and construct four modern, humane borough-based jails to replace the aging facilities on Rikers Island, facilitating the permanent closure of Rikers by 2027. DDC collaborates with the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) and the NYC Department of Correction (DOC) to realize this initiative.
We are seeking a college intern to support our team of architects and engineers with basic office and field administrative tasks.
Authorization to work in the United States is a prerequisite for this position.
