POSITION: Accounting Manager
DEPARTMENT: Finance
HOURS: 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (Additional hours as required)
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
This position plays a pivotal role in collaborating with the Chief Financial Officer to lead the firm’s accounting functions, including General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Client Receipts, Client Trust Accounts, and Partner Compensation. The Accounting Manager is expected to proactively identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and accuracy. This role encompasses both strategic oversight and hands-on management of accounting operations, overseeing staff within these functional areas, and providing guidance and performance management.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: This role requires close collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Finance, and Firm Management, as well as regular interaction with partners, associates, and administrative staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to enhance the firm’s general accounting operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Manage daily general accounting tasks, including accounts payable, client receipts, and client trust account transactions while ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Partner with the Senior Staff Accountant to maintain accurate general ledger (GL) records and conduct monthly reconciliations of bank and balance sheet accounts.
- Review and prepare monthly journal entries with accurate expense coding, recommending necessary corrections or reclassifications.
- Oversee partner compensation accounting, managing calculations, scheduling, and distribution of draws, ensuring data accuracy and transparency.
- Prepare financial and statistical reports for firm leadership, including cash position updates and monthly financial summaries.
- Assist with the annual audit process and preparation of financial statements in collaboration with external auditors.
