The Columbia University School of Professional Studies invites applications for the position of adjunct Lecturer for the Fall 2025 semester. The selected candidate will teach the graduate-level course Advanced Actuarial Methods within the esteemed Master of Science degree program in Actuarial Science. We are looking for scholar-practitioners who possess a combination of academic credentials and practical industry experience.
This course, Actuarial Models, introduces essential tools for pricing and reserving short-term insurance. Topics to be covered include methods for calculating IBNR reserves, ratemaking, frequency and severity models for coverage modifications, statistical methods for fitting, evaluating, and selecting parametric models for frequency and severity, and three credibility methods.
This course aligns with the short-term material of Exam FAM as well as Exam ASTAM from the Society of Actuaries, and it encompasses content from Exams MAS I, MAS II, and 5 of the Casualty Actuarial Society. It is a core component of the Actuarial Science program.
