The Mission
Within TRI’s Human-Centered AI Division, the Harmonious Communities team is focused on understanding and enhancing wellbeing across complex systems, including workplaces, organizations, and communities. Our objective is to innovate methods for measuring, modeling, and improving wellbeing by leveraging AI to foster better outcomes both individually and collectively.
The Challenge
Wellbeing within real-world systems is multifaceted, influenced by interactions among individuals, teams, and environments. Numerous factors are difficult to observe, quantify, or analyze, often leading traditional methods to fall short in capturing these dynamics. We are investigating how AI, combined with systems thinking, can reveal hidden patterns, identify critical drivers, and facilitate the design of interventions or systemic changes that elevate outcomes on a larger scale.
The Team
The Harmonious Communities team consists of an interdisciplinary group of machine learning researchers, behavioral scientists, and human-computer interaction specialists. We collaborate across disciplines to examine how wellbeing manifests, evolves, and can be influenced through organizational structures, technologies, and policies. Our research connects fundamental studies with tangible impact within Toyota.
The Opportunity
We seek a creative and self-motivated intern to investigate how AI can enhance our understanding and improvement of wellbeing in human systems. This open-ended, research-focused internship will allow you to co-design the project based on your interests and ideas. You will have the chance to propose and develop innovative approaches, including machine learning, causal inference, natural language processing, or agent-based modeling, to analyze complex social systems.
