The Department of Literature, Media, and Writing at Hartwick College is excited to announce a search for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Composition and Rhetoric, commencing August 2026, pending final administrative approval. We welcome applications from candidates who possess expertise in First-Year Writing, with a strong preference for those who also have experience in Multilingual Writing Pedagogies, Media Studies, and Technical Writing.
Ideal candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Composition & Rhetoric, English, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. We will also consider ABD candidates with exceptional teaching experience in first-year writing. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching College Writing and Co-requisite College Writing, with the opportunity to design courses in rhetoric and composition that align with their specific areas of expertise.
Faculty members will have a teaching load averaging 20 semester credit hours per academic year, which includes instruction during the College's distinctive four-week January Term. We seek individuals who are committed to fostering excellence and innovation in undergraduate education. Additionally, tenure-track faculty are expected to engage actively in scholarly or creative activities, serve on committees, and provide academic advising as part of their contributions to the College community.
