Job Summary:
The Assistant Resident Engineer for Roads plays a crucial role in supporting the Resident Engineer by overseeing the construction and maintenance of road infrastructure projects. This position ensures that all roadworks are executed in strict adherence to design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines. The Assistant Resident Engineer will be involved in site supervision, quality control, progress monitoring, and effective coordination with contractors and other stakeholders to guarantee the successful completion of road construction and rehabilitation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Supervision & Quality Control:
- Support the Resident Engineer in managing daily road construction activities and ensuring compliance with design drawings, project specifications, and safety regulations.
- Perform regular site inspections to confirm that roadworks, including pavement, subbase, drainage systems, and signage, meet the highest quality standards.
- Ensure all construction work aligns with project objectives and complies with regulatory requirements.
Technical Support & Coordination:
- Provide technical advice to contractors and site teams regarding road construction methods, materials, and specifications.
- Assist in troubleshooting any technical issues related to roadworks, including drainage, pavement design, and traffic management.
- Facilitate coordination among the project team, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure seamless execution of roadwork activities.
Material & Equipment Inspection:
- Oversee the inspection and testing of road construction materials (e.g., asphalt, aggregates, concrete) to ensure compliance with required specifications.
- Monitor the effective and safe use of construction equipment on-site.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain precise records of site activities, including daily progress reports, inspection logs, and material approvals related to roadworks.
- Document any issues or deviations from approved plans and report them to the Resident Engineer for prompt resolution.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on road construction progress, quality, and safety for senior management and stakeholders.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and environmental guidelines throughout all road construction activities.
- Monitor site activities for potential hazards and implement measures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and participate in safety meetings to promote the well-being of all personnel.
Progress Monitoring & Scheduling:
- Assist in tracking the progress of roadworks against the approved schedule to ensure timely project completion.
