Purpose
As the Associate Director of Medical Publishing in Oncology, you will spearhead the creation of global strategic publication plans for key therapeutic areas. You will oversee the production of scientific publications, including clinical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and oral presentations, ensuring they meet our medical and scientific goals. In this role, you will provide management and guidance to a team, focusing on performance assessment, training, conflict resolution, and talent retention. Additionally, you will represent Global Scientific Publications on cross-functional teams and lead departmental initiatives that enhance our medical publishing processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional teams dedicated to priority and complex therapeutic areas. Facilitate team discussions and drive the development of publication strategies that reflect input from key global stakeholders. Manage the tactical execution of publication plans to ensure they meet established timelines and budgetary requirements.
- Effectively communicate critical and sensitive information to therapeutic area and senior leadership. Proactively address and resolve publication-related issues as they arise. Participate in departmental initiatives that enhance medical publishing practices.
- Supervise internal staff supporting multiple compounds and indications within a therapeutic area, ensuring that all work products are accurate and adhere to timelines and publication policies.
- Actively represent Global Scientific Publications at cross-functional meetings, contributing valuable insights and sharing crucial information with team members. Assess resource needs for assigned therapeutic areas and advocate for necessary staffing.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of regulations, requirements, and guidelines for scientific publication preparation and production. Ensure that the team understands and complies with these standards. Offer expert guidance on publishing trends and practices to global stakeholders, including AbbVie senior leadership.
- Build and nurture business relationships with staff from various functional areas involved in publication projects. Communicate effectively to achieve project objectives and present information clearly and professionally.
