As a Boiler Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of steam boilers and pressure vessels within New York City. This position involves conducting thorough inspections to verify adherence to NYC Construction Codes, departmental regulations, and approved plans.
Under general supervision, your responsibilities will include:
- Executing technical inspections to assess the design, operation, and installation of steam boilers and pressure vessels for compliance with relevant laws and codes.
- Investigating accidents, incidents, and complaints, ensuring alignment with safety standards.
- Examining various components of boilers for defects, corrosion, and other issues.
- Performing hydrostatic tests to establish safe working pressures.
- Inspecting safety equipment and the overall condition of boiler rooms.
- Reviewing blueprints and specifications to prepare for inspections.
- Issuing violations and stop work orders when necessary.
- Maintaining detailed records and reports of inspections and findings.
- Providing guidance on relevant laws and regulations.
- Training and supervising subordinate staff as required.
This role may involve physical activities such as walking, climbing ladders, and working in varying environmental conditions including damp or dusty areas. Inspectors may also be required to work shifts, including nights and holidays.
Special conditions may apply, including drug screening and possession of a valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment.
