As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant is primarily accountable for supporting physicians, nurses, and licensed medical staff, facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting in various patient care activities, and executing related administrative tasks. The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring a smooth patient experience by maintaining clean, organized, and safe patient care environments, actively promoting patient satisfaction through professional interactions, and safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure seamless patient flow by:
- Escorting patients to exam rooms, confirming their identity with two identifiers, and preparing them for examinations.
- Accurately obtaining vital signs in accordance with organizational standards.
- Documenting the reason for visits while updating and confirming allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information.
- Promptly notifying the provider and registered nurse of any significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms.
- Anticipating and setting up necessary equipment or supplies for each visit.
- Cleaning and preparing exam rooms for subsequent patients.
- Responding to needs to expedite visits while prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Assist practitioners with medical and surgical procedures following established protocols, including:
- Electrocardiograms (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection, and CLIA waived testing as directed by the provider.
- Deliver high-quality care by:
- Preparing and stocking all exam rooms in the treatment area, adhering to protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
- Participating in environmental safety rounds.
- Maintaining inventory of vaccines and medications.
- Monitoring and maintaining equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines.
- Assisting in ordering supplies and properly disposing of expired items.
- Following office opening and closing procedures diligently.
- Act as a key member of the patient care team, enhancing patient satisfaction through professional and friendly interactions:
- Accepting and performing delegated responsibilities positively.
- Offering assistance to colleagues.
- Attending and contributing to staff meetings.
- Communicating effectively with patients and the patient care team both in-person and via phone.
